  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the shipping package.
  2. The hard drive will have either a pamphlet included in the package or the model number and drive parameters written on it.
  3. If there is no pamphlet, write down the model number and parameters (cylinders, heads, sectors) for future reference.
  4. Insert the hard drive into an empty 3.5" drive bay.
  5. Screw in the drive using at least two screws on each side.
  6. Plug one of the large power cables into the back of the drive. The power cable has a white connector with red, black and yellow wires.
  7. Connect the hard drive controller cable to the 40-pin connector on the back of the drive. The hard drive must connect at the end of the controller cable. This is the connector designated for the C: drive.
  8. Make sure the red marks on the edge of the controller cable are on the same side as PIN ONE on the drive (PIN ONE is often located closest to the power connector).
  9. Make sure the connectors are tightly secured and all the pins are completely covered.
  10. Power up the computer system.
  11. Press the [DEL], [F1] or [F2] key to enter CMOS SETUP. Refer to the on-screen directions for the correct key.

    NOTE: Please refer to the motherboard manual for information on how to set up a fixed disk. Steps 12-14 will work on most computers. Skip to Step 15 if the AUTODETECT option is available.

  12. Using the arrow keys, highlight FIXED DISK SETUP and press the [ENTER] key.
  13. If there is no FIXED DISK SETUP option, highlight STANDARD and press the [ENTER] key.
  14. Once in the SETUP for hard drives, change TYPE to USER and enter the values for CYLN, HEADS and SECT (reference the hard drive pamphlet or the notes taken at Step 3).
  15. After entering the parameters, press the [ESC] key.

For Installing MS-DOS® (Verions 5.0 and up).

  1. Insert the DOS SETUP Disk #1 in floppy drive A:, then press the [F10] key to save and exit. The computer system will reboot.
  2. When the system finishes booting, it will be in the MS-DOS SETUP routine.
  3. Follow the on-line instructions for installing DOS to the hard disk.
  4. DOS SETUP will prepare the hard drive for use.

For Installing Windows® 95 (Diskette Version)

  1. Insert the Windows 95 SETUP Boot Disk in floppy drive A:, then press the [F10] key to save and exit. The computer system will reboot.
  2. When the system finishes booting, it will be in the Windows 95 SETUP routine.
  3. Follow the on-line instructions for installing Windows 95 to the hard disk.
  4. Windows 95 SETUP will prepare the hard drive for use.

For Installing Windows® 95 (CD-ROM Version)

  1. Make sure the write protect is off the Windows 95 CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk, then insert it in floppy drive A:.
  2. Press the [F10] key to save and exit. The computer system will reboot.
  3. From the CD-ROM Boot Menu enter the corresponding number for the CD-ROM drive in the computer and press the [ENTER] key.
  4. Insert the Windows 95 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  5. At the A: prompt, type: C:\WIN95\EXTRACT /L A:\ C:\WIN95\WIN95_02.CAB FDISK.EXE and press the [ENTER] key.
  6. Type: FDISK and press the [ENTER] key.
  7. Press the [ENTER] key three times.
  8. At the A: prompt press the [CTRL][ALT][DEL] keys simultaneously to reboot the computer.
  9. From the CD-ROM Boot Menu enter the corresponding number for the CD-ROM drive in the computer and press the [ENTER] key.
  10. At the A: prompt, type: D:\WIN95\FORMAT C: /U and press the [ENTER] key.
  11. When the question "Proceed with Format (Y/N)?" answer "Yes".
  12. When the format has completed, type: D:\WIN95\SETUP.EXE and press the [ENTER] key.
  13. Follow the on-line instructions for installing Windows 95.
  14. The hard drive is ready for use.
