BEFORE YOU START
- Make sure the computer is unplugged from the wall. This will
insure that no power is getting into the computer.
- You will need to have a regular sized Phillips head screwdriver.
- Position the computer, or yourself, so that the rear of the
case is facing you.
TECH TIP
- To keep screws safe, use a small container, like an old margarine
tub, to hold the screws. This prevents the screw from rolling
off a table, or getting lost in the carpet!
Removing the case off a SLIMLINE case
- There will be two screws holding the case in place. The two
screws are located in the middle of each side.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws, and
put them somewhere safe.
- Once the screws are removed, place the palm of
your hands on each side of the case.
- Putting a small amount of pressure on each side
of the case, pull back slowly. The case should start sliding towards
you.
- Once the case has slid back at least 4 inches,
you can lift the case straight up.
- Put the shell of the case somewhere where it
won't get in the way.
- You should now be looking inside the computer,
and be ready to continue on.
Removing the case off a DESKTOP case
- There will be two screws holding the case in place. The two
screws are located in the middle of each side.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws, and
put them somewhere safe.
- Once the screws are removed, place the palm of your hands
on each side of the case.
- Putting a small amount of pressure on each side of the case,
pull back slowly. The case should start sliding towards you.

the case straight up.

- You should now be looking inside the computer, and be ready

Removing the case off a MINI TOWER case
- There will be four screws holding the case in place. There
are screws in the upper right, the bottom right, the upper left,
and the bottom left hand corners.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws, and
put them somewhere safe.
- Once the screws are removed, place the palm of your hands
on each side of the case.
- Putting a small amount of pressure on each side of the case,
pull back slowly. The case should start sliding towards you.
- Once the case has slid back at least 4 inches, you can left
the case straight up.
- Put the shell of the case somewhere where it won't get in
the way.
- You should now be looking inside the computer, and be ready
to continue on.
Removing the case off a MID TOWER case
- There will be six screws holding the case in place. There
are screws in the upper right, the middle right, the bottom right,
the upper left, the middle left, and the bottom left hand corners.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws, and
put them somewhere safe.
- Once the screws are removed, place the palm of your hands
on each side of the case.
- Putting a small amount of pressure on each side of the case,
pull back slowly. The case should start sliding towards you.
- Once the case has slid back at least 4 inches, you can left
the case straight up.
- Put the shell of the case somewhere where it won't get in
the way.
- You should now be looking inside the computer, and be ready
to continue on.
Removing the case off a FULL TOWER case
- Remove all the cables from the back of the case. (This includes
the mouse, vga cable, speaker wires, etc.)
- There will be a plastic cover, covering the rear of the case.
There are currently two styles of plastic coverings. The removal
of the cover depends on which case you have.
- The first, is an older full tower case with the LED indicator
on the front that displays the CPU speed. To remove this cover
simply pull the cover off, there are no screws holding the cover
in place, and the cover simply snaps off and on.
- The second, is a newer style case that has six screws holding
the cover in place. You must remove these six screw first. Once
the screws have been removed, place them in a safe place. Be careful
when pulling the cover off. Make sure to pull the cover towards
yourself, and not at an angle. Avoid prying the cover off with
a screw driver, for this can break the cover.
- You will now see that there are six screws holding the case
in place. The screws are in the upper right, the middle right,
the bottom right, the upper left, the middle left, and the bottom
left hand corners.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws, and
put them somewhere safe.
- Once the screws are removed, place the palm of your hands
on each side of the case.

pull back slowly. The case should start sliding towards you.
