What is MPR-II?
MPR-II is a Swedish standard for low radiation. Though
conclusive studies have not been done to prove the dangers of
Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) and Very
Low Frequency (VLF), MPR-II establishes guidelines
to ensure that no potentially harmful radiation is emitted from
the case of a monitor.
What does it mean to have an EPA monitor?
A monitor that meets the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) standard means that the monitor is energy
efficient according to the guidelines set by the EPA. For a monitor
to meet the EPA standard it must be able to run in a "standby"
or "sleep" mode in which it uses less than a total of
30 watts of power. Normally a monitor will consume 90-120 watts
of power while in use.
What is a "digital monitor"?
A digital monitor is one that uses push-button controls
to adjust the monitor's settings. Older monitors used turn knobs
to change the settings.
Why does the monitor's actual viewing area differ from it's
screen size?
A monitor's actual viewing area differs from it's screen
size because the monitor industry's standard for monitor size
is derived from the actual size of the picture tube. This differs
from the television industry which measures only the viewable
area of the picture tube.
What is a refresh rate and which refresh rates will my monitor
support?
The refresh rate is the number of times the screen is
re-scanned in a given second at a given resolution. This varies
from monitor to monitor. This information can be obtained from
the manual or from the manufacturer.
How do I set up my monitor for Windows® 95?
To set up a monitor for Windows 95, use the "Compatible
Monitor Listing" (that is found on both the WWW and our infoFax
fax-on-demand service) to find the correct settings to use. The
monitor type can be changed using the "Display Properties"
box in Windows 95.
What is the difference between our standard 17" monitor
and our 17" ExactMatch Monitor?
The ExactMatch Monitor has a color-correcting control.
What does "ExactMatch" mean?
ExactMatch refers to the ability to fine tune a monitor's
color hue to the output of a color printer. This is done by printing
a color picture and then holding it next to the same picture on
the monitor. The color hue on the monitor is then adjusted to
match the color hue on the printed picture.
Why are pins missing from my monitor cable?
Pins may be missing from your monitor cable because some
monitors don't require the use of all the pin slots available
on your video cable.
What is DPMS?
DPMS stands for Display Power Management
Signaling. DPMS is the standard for power management on
video cards. DPMS is the function that allows a video card to
tell an EPA compliant monitor to go into "standby" or
"sleep" mode.
Why does the power light on my monitor change colors?
The DPMS specification calls for a green light to indicate
a "powered up" condition, and a yellow light to indicate
a "standby" or "sleep" condition. On an EPA
compliant monitor, turning off the system's power or disconnecting
the monitor from the back of the video card will cause the light
to turn from green to yellow as long as power is still getting
to the monitor.
