What is MPC? What is the MPC Work Group?
MPC is an acronym for Multimedia PC. The MPC Working Group is a group of people that develops the MPC standards for multimedia computing. The MPC Working Group was founded by working members of SPA (Software Publishers Association.) There are currently two MPC standards: MPC I and MPC II. An MPC II standard is currently under development.

What is ISO 9660?
ISO 9660 is a multi-platform CD standard that operates with both IBM and Macintosh compatible computer systems. Multiple operating systems such as DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT and UNIX also support the ISO 9660 standard.

What is "green book"?
Developed in 1986 by Philips, "green book" was the first CD-I Digital Video standard to combine audio, video and text on one platform. It does not conform to the ISO 9660 specifications.

What is "white book"?
Designed to replace "green book", "white book" is MPC's CD-I Video CD standard and is becoming the most widely used format. "White book" conforms to the ISO 9660 specifications.

What does MPEG stand for?
MPEG is an acronym for Moving Picture Experts Group and is used to refer to audio and video using MPEG compression

What does "full motion video" mean?
Full motion video refers to a video file which supports up to 16.8 million colors and a maximum resolution of 352 x 240 when played at 24, 25 or 30 frames per second.

What does "CD quality audio" mean?
CD quality audio refers to an audio file that is recorded with a resolution of 16-bit and at a sampling rate of 44.1 KHz, the same as for an audio CD.

What file formats does the REALmagic card support?
The REALmagic card supports MPG, ABS, MPA, VBS, MPV and DAT file formats.

What type of files have the extension .MPG? What is an MPG file?
MPG is an extension for MPEG files that include full motion video with CD quality audio.

What type of files have the extension .ABS or .MPA? What do ABS and MPA stand for?
ABS and MPA are extensions for files containing MPEG-compressed audio. ABS is an acronym for Audio Bit Stream and MPA is an acronym for MPEG Audio.

What type of files have the extension .VBS or MPV? What do VBS and MPV stand for?
VBS and MPV are extensions for files containing MPEG-compressed video. VBS is an acronym for Video Bit Stream and MPV is an acronym for MPEG Video.

What type of MPEG files have the extension .DAT?
.DAT is a commonly used file extension. Two of the most popular .DAT files types are Video CD and Karaoke CD.

When I run an MPG my video is choppy. Why?
Use the "REALmagic..." option in MEDIA PLAYER when running an MPG video clip. Only the REALmagic viewer supports the REALmagic card and can take advantage of the REALmagic's built-in hardware MPEG decoder.

When I play an MPEG file it is surrounded by a solid green band. Why?
When I play an MPEG file its window is transparent. Why?
When I play an MPEG file it will not fill the entire window and will not play full screen. Why?

To solve all these problems run REALmagic's "Border Adjust" and "Color Calibration" utilities. See the REALmagic manual for instructions.

When I change the desktop's resolution, the MPG files no longer play correctly. Why?
Any time you change the desktop's resolution, REALmagic's "Border Adjust" utility must be run. See the REALmagic manual for instructions.

Why won't my CD-I movie run in Windows® 95?
Early CD-I movies used "green book" technology (also known as "Digital Video"), which is not supported by most of the CD-ROM drivers included with Windows® 95. To view a movie in Windows 95, install the CD-ROM's real-mode driver and disable Windows 95's protected mode driver. Contact the CD-ROM manufacturer to see if "green book" compliant Windows 95 drivers are available.
