SYMPTOMS

TV Output feature of the S3 AGP Virge GX/2 Graphics Card not functioning

CAUSE

The TV Output feature is either set up incorrectly or not set up at all

RESOLUTION

Read through the notes below then follow the steps to set up the TV Output feature

NOTES:

  • If you are using the Microsoft® DOS® OS, you will need to boot up the PC with only the TV connected (not the monitor).
  • The PC will not hold the TV Output settings unless you boot the PC with only the TV connected. Otherwise, you must select the TV function each time you shut down or restart the computer.
  • The TV and/or monitor must be connected and powered on to be selected as a viewing devices. The TV is limited to about 640 x 400 resolution, but a virtual desktop will be displayed which includes selectable resolution settings.
  • Text may appear blurry or fuzzy on the TV. This is normal, and it is suggested that you adjust the color controls on the TV to achieve the best picture.

  1. Power off the PC and remove the power cord.
  2. Connect the cable (with the yellow ends) to the "Composite Video Out" port on the graphics card.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to the "Composite Video In" input jack on the TV.

NOTE: You may also connect the PC to the TV using an SVHS (S-Video) cable if the TV is equipped with this type of input jack. This cable is not included with the PC, but may be purchased at a local electronics store. Using a SVHS cable should improve the picture quality of the TV display.

  4. Power on the TV and set it to "VCR," "Video 1" or "SVHS (S- Video)." Consult the TV user's manual for the proper settings.
  5. Replace the power cord to the back of the PC then power the computer on. (There will be no display on the TV during the boot process.)
  6. From the Microsoft® Windows® desktop screen, right-click on an area where there are no icons.
  7. Select "Properties."
  8. Select the "S3" tab.
  9. In the "Display Devices" area, place a check (click) in the box labeled "TV."

NOTE: You will also have a setting for Optimal Timing. If this is not checked, the monitor will offer the same display as the TV (it will be limited to a screen size of 640 x 400 with a virtual desktop up to the selected resolution).

  10. Click on the "OK" button.
  11. Click on "OK" once more to test the settings.
  12. Select "Yes" to keep the settings.

The TV Output feature should now work properly.
