SYMPTOMS

The PC boot process is halted after the memory count. The POST cycle won't complete. Symptoms occur most typically on PCs which include the Gigabyte GA- 5AX motherboard with an IDE CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

The CD-ROM power connector is disconnected.

RESOLUTION

Follow the steps below to reconnect the CD-ROM power connector.

  1. Power off the PC
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer.
  3. Remove the panel from the side of the PC.
  4. Locate the back of the CD-ROM drive.
  5. Locate the clear, white power connector with the red, yellow and black wires.
  6. Insert the power connector into the back of the CD-ROM drive. It is notched so it will only connect one way.
  7. Replace the side panel to the PC.
  8. Replace the power cord to the back of the PC.
  9. Power on the PC.
The PC should now complete the boot process.
