SYMPTOMS
The following message appears when starting Microsoft® Windows
NT®:
- "At least one service or driver failed to load during startup. See Event
Viewer for details."
The Event Viewer will show the following:
- Event ID: 7000
- Source: Service Control Manager
- Category: None
- Description: The ATI VIDC service failed to start due to the following
error. A device attached to the system is not functioning
CAUSE
The ATI video drivers were installed from the ATI driver CD using the Quick
Install option. This installs a multilingual driver which causes the error
message.
RESOLUTION
- Log on to Windows NT as an "Administrator".
- From the desktop screen, click on the "Start" button.
- Select "Settings".
- Click on the "Control Panel".
- Double-click on "Devices" icon within the "Control Panel".
- Locate and select "ATI VIDC" from the listed devices.
- Click on the "Startup" button.
- Select "Disabled".
- Click on the "OK" button.
- Click on the "HW Profiles" button.
- Click on the "Disabled" button.
- Click on the "OK" button.
- Restart the computer.
The error message should no longer appear.
