SYMPTOMS
"Display overlay not available" message appears when attempting to play a DVD title using the ATI DVD Player. The program or movie will not play.
CAUSE
There may not be enough display adapter memory available. DVD Player requires additional memory beyond what the standard display settings use. The video driver and/or DVD Player driver software may also be corrupted.
RESOLUTION
Since DVD does not require a specific color settings, you can lower the display color settings (i.e. 32-bit to 16-bit color) and reboot the PC to free up more video memory. Follow the steps below if the error message continues to appear.
Removing And Reinstalling The Video Driver And ATI DVD Player Software
- Close all opened programs and windows.
- Click the "Start" button.
- Select "Settings".
- Click on "Control Panel".
- Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon to open it.
- Highlight the ATI drivers then click on the �Remove�.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to remove the driver software. Do not restart the PC if prompted to do so.
- Highlight the �ATI DVD Player� (if it is listed). Do not restart the PC if prompted to do so.
- Close the �Add/Remove Programs� window.
- Double-click on the "Display" icon from within �Control Panel� to open it.
- Select the �Settings� tab.
- Click on the �Advanced� button.
- Select the �Adapter� tab.
- Click on the �Change� button.
- Click on the �Next� button.
- Select "Display a list of all drivers ..." then click on the �Next� button.
- Select "Show all hardware". A list of manufacturers and models will appear on the screen.
- Select "(Standard display types)" from the list of �Manufacturers�.
- Make sure that "Standard Display Adapter (VGA)" is highlighted in the list of �Models�.
- Click on the �Next� button.
- Select �Yes� if an "Update Driver Warning" message appears on the screen.
- Click on the �Next� button.
- Select �Finish�.
- Restart the PC.
- Insert the "ATI Installation CD International" driver CD in your CD-ROM drive when the PC has rebooted.
- Choose "Express Setup" then follow the on-screen prompts.
NOTE: When prompted for version conflicts you MUST select "No" when prompted to keep the file.
- Restart the PC when prompted to do so.
- Reinstall the ATI DVD Player software. (Insert the disk and follow the on-screen prompts).
- Restart the PC when prompted to do so.
The error message should no longer appear.
