SYMPTOMS

When used with a Power Strip/Surge Protector, must press the power button on the PC to power on


CAUSE

The "Power On Mode" is set incorrectly on the motherboard


RESOLUTION

Follow the steps below to set the "Power On Mode" correctly. You will need to refer to the motherboard manual included with your PC for assistance with these steps.

  1. Power off the system and remove the power cord from the back of the PC.
  2. Power off the power strip/surge protector.
  3. Remove the computer's case cover. Refer to the link below for assistance with this step.
  4. On the motherboard, locate the tiny set of pins labeled "J2."
  5. Remove the tiny plastic cover (or jumper) from the pins.
  6. Replace the computer's case cover and plug in the power cord.
  7. Power on the power strip/surge protector.

The PC should power on boot up normally every time the power strip/surge protector is powered on.

NOTE: The PC requires an interval of at least 15 seconds before it will power on each time the power strip/surge protector is powered off then back on.
