SYMPTOMS

The following error message appears when Microsoft® Baseball 3D is started:

  • "Baseball 3D Alert... Baseball 3D requires a Direct3D-compliant graphics accelerator card with specific capabilities in order to run. Adequate hardware was not detected on your computer. See the Readme.txt file on the Baseball 3D CD-ROM for more information."

CAUSE

The options "Use Direct3D Hardware Acceleration" and/or "Use DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration" are not selected in the DirectX options of Microsoft® Windows®.

RESOLUTION

Verify that the settings are correct for DirectX. You will need to run either "DirectX Driver Tool" or "DirectX Diagnostics Tool" depending on the version of DirectX installed on the system.

  1. From the Windows desktop screen, click on the "Start" button.
  2. Select "Run".
  3. Click on the Browse. (The "Look in: area should show the C: drive.)
  4. Double-click on the "Program Files" folder.
  5. Double-click "DirectX" folder.
  6. Double-click on the "Setup" folder. Either DXTOOL.EXE or DXDIAG.EXE will appear in the Browse window.
  7. Double-click on the listed file. Continue with step 1 in the section below that corresponds with the file that appears in the Browse window.
If DXTOOL.EXE appears in the Browse window (this is DirectX 6.0 or earlier):
  1. This will bring up "DirectX Driver Tool". Make sure both of the following check boxes are selected:
    • Use Direct3D Hardware Acceleration
    • Use DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration
  2. If you are unable to select either of the check boxes in step 1, refer to the related link below.
  3. Click on the OK button to exit.
If DXDIAG.EXE appears in the Browse window (this is DirectX 6.1 or later):
  1. This will bring up "DirectX Diagnostic Tool".
  2. Select the Display tab at the top. The status of "DirectDraw" and "Direct3D" will be listed under DirectX Features.
  3. Click on the Enable button if the acceleration box has not been selected.
  4. If you are unable to select one of them, refer to the related link below.

Baseball 3D should run properly when Direct3D and DirectDraw Acceleration have been enabled.
