Kbps (kilobits per second)
A unit of measurement. Data transfer speed, as on the network, measured in multiples of 1024 bits per second.

key
On a keyboard, the combination of a plastic keycap (which typically has a character printed on its face), a tension mechanism that suspends the keycap but allows it to be pressed down and an electronic mechanism that records the key press and key release.

key in
To press keys to enter information into the computer; a synonym for the verb "type."

keyboard
The part of the computer system that resembles a typewriter keyboard and enable the user to control certain aspects of the computer.

keyboard buffer
A small amount of system memory that stores the most recently typed characters.

keycap
The plastic piece identifying a key on a keyboard.

keystone
A type of distortion in which the screen image is smaller at one side of the screen than at the opposite side.

keyword
A characteristic word, phrase or code that is stored in a key field and used to conduct sorting or searching operations on records.

kilobit
A unit of measure. One kilobit contains 1,024 bits.

kilohertz (KHz)
A measurement of frequency equivalent to 1000 hertz, or 1000 cycles per second. (Also see "hertz".)
